The Refreshing Rivers project has started off works to restore the banks of Morleys Creek which is in the heart of Gundagai. The project is a partnership with Brungle Tumut Local Aboriginal Land Council and Cootamundra Gundagai Regional Council.
Morleys Creek is an important waterway for the township and for traditional owners. It provides a number of benefits including recreational fishing, ecotourism, cultural heritage and livestock water. The Creek also provides habitat for a number of species including platypus, rakali (water rat) and native fish including flathead gudgeon and western carp gudgeon.
Together, we're:
- removing invasive species
- stabilising creek banks
- planting native vegetation
- undertaking water quality assessments
- assessing biodiversity using eDNA
- supporting cultural and ecological restoration

In pursuit of Platypus! We've been eDNA sampling along the Billabong Creek in the Upper Billabong Project Target Area, looking for the presence of Platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) in the system.
