Through the Refreshing Rivers project, we have been working with the Brungle Tumut Local Aboriginal Land Council (LALC) to improve the health and biodiversity of waterways in the Riverina Highlands.
Over the past 6 months, a team of workers from the LALC were engaged to undertake activities such as fencing, pest plant control, native seed collection and revegetation. The results of their efforts have included:
-1600 m pest plant control along waterways such as Adelong, Morleys and Gilmore Creeks
-6 ha of habitat established for the critically endangered Tumut Grevillea
-2 ha of habitat established for the endangered Macquarie Perch
The program has not only restored local waterways but increased the skills, knowledge, and access to work on country for the LALC.

We lacked information on the aquatic wildlife of the Upper Billabong catchment, so using Citizen Science - the Refreshing Rivers iNaturalist project and eDNA tests, we have gathered 1,672 observations across the catchment and also completed 9 eDNA profiles in local waterways.

Courtesy of the Refreshing Upper Billabong project, we have a limited number of tubestock suitable for planting both instream and along creek banks to reduce erosion and create habitat.
